World’s Busiest NFT Marketplace to Allow NFT Purchases in Fiat

Being able to buy NFTs for blockchain games with my debit card is so convenient for me that it's a little worrying!

Summary

  • WAX marketplace, AtomicHub, partners with Banxa for digital fiat payment infrastructure
  • This will enable the purchasing of NFTs on the platform for fiat

The age-old problem within the crypto industry has been onboarding. It is no coincidence that Coinbase became the first cryptocurrency company to make the Fortune 500 list — they allowed anyone with a phone and a bank account to buy cryptocurrencies. Despite how effective this has been, it is still the case that relatively few cryptocurrencies and platforms allow for simple fiat purchases.

Now, the world’s busiest NFT marketplace, AtomicHub, is going to allow exactly that.

The AtomicHub and Banxa Partnership: Why This Is a Big Moment for Blockchain Gaming

AtomicHub is the primary NFT marketplace for the WAX ecosystem and is the busiest in the world, with over 250 million NFTs, 13 million wallets, and over 1 million transactions every day. AtomicHub has seen over 1 billion $WAXP pass through it since its inception.

To buy an NFT on AtomicHub, previously you would have had to use $WAXP, but that’s about to change thanks to a partnership with Banxa, the payment services platform. This collaboration we see users able to purchase NFTs directly on Atomic Hub with their credit card, Apple Pay, and various other familiar fiat payment options.

“Banxa is excited to be launching our fiat-to-NFT offering with AtomicHub. We know there is a huge amount of friction in the NFT purchase journey – and we believe our checkout product with local payment options will make it a lot easier for the community to purchase NFTs on AtomicHub’s marketplace – a win-win.”

— Holger Arians, CEO of Banxa

In addition to being able to buy NFTs directly from the marketplace for fiat, you will be able to use Banxa to buy $WAXP tokens too.

So, why is this important for gaming? The WAX blockchain has become an early frontrunner for blockchain gaming, with DappRadars charts being dominated by projects utilizing the chain for the last 18 months. Splinterlands and Alien Worlds are the two games that have fought over the top spot by users and both use WAX. That means that NFTs for the most popular blockchain games are for sale on AtomicHub and that they will soon be purchasable in fiat.

This is a huge step forward for onboarding players into blockchain games, removing at least one step, but potentially several.
