The Sandbox has been one of the premier blockchain games in Web3 to date, not only hooking some staggering partnerships, onboarding many big names, but also for the experiences created. The Sandbox is becoming the ultimate meta game, and Season 3 of the Alpha phase gets underway this week.

What Is The Sandbox?

The Sandbox is a virtual world in which many experiences and games can be built, similar to how Minecraft or Roblox operates. However, with its unparalleled onboarding, partnering with the likes of Tony Hawk and Rollercoaster Tycoon, many attractive games are being developed within the block walls of The Sandbox. This is one of the three ways I point to as evidence for The Sandbox becoming a meta game.

The Sandbox was originally released in 2012 on mobile devices and then on PC in 2015 via Steam. However, in 2018, Animoca Brands, acquired the game with the intention of rebuilding it in Web3, underpinned by blockchain technology. This has proven successful and it is one of the more familiar names in the space and has nurtured some of the biggest partnerships in crypto.

The Sandbox Alpha Season 3

On 24th August 2022, The Sandbox enters the third season of its Alpha phase, opening its gates to all. In a recent Medium post, the new additions are teased. There will be over 90 new playable experiences, offering a minimum of 80 hours of content, and this includes content from some of their most famous partners, such as:

• Atari
• Ubisoft’s Rabbids,
• Bored Ape Yacht Club
• The Walking Dead
• The Smurfs

There are then many big names from music, such Snoop Dogg and Steve Aoki, many familiar NFT collections, and even a luxury brand: Gucci.

In addition to this, there will be lots of ways to earn, from passive income through holding certain NFTs (Alpha Pass will reward 500 $SAND, LAND is 180 $SAND, Avatar is 60 $SAND, and NFT Collector is 30 $SAND), to questing your way into the leaderboard.

Completing quests rewards Ehtos Points (EPs) and there will be a leaderboard of 5,000 players and a total prize pool of 1.5 million $SAND. First place will get a sizeable chunk: 30,000 $SAND.
