Token Gamer and NFT Insider have decided to combine forces to launch a WAX-centric podcast, WAX Lyrical. John Nichols of NFT Insider and I will discuss a new topic every week, as well as feature special guests in the near future. If there’s a topic you’d like us to cover, make sure you let us know through the Token Gamer Discord or Twitter, or the NFT Insider Discord or Twitter.
After the success of last week’s topic — blockchain gaming — we decided to dig a little deeper and tackle a more serious issue: scams.
Episode 2: Avoiding Scams in NFTs
Much of the mainstream media fearmonger as part of their resting state — it gets clicks after all. One area which is getting a little too much of the media’s icy glare is blockchain. There are a number of ways in which media outlets disparage the adoption or use of blockchain technology, but a stand-out method is that it is “the Wild West” and rife with scams.
This isn’t entirely unfounded, but it isn’t the lawless pit of chaos portrayed. Any new area that is likely to be as far-reaching as blockchain is will attract ne’er do wells and the deceitful. The amount of money in play in the crypto industry only exacerbates the issue. Nevertheless, it isn’t a pervasive blight, but rather something to consider in order to stay safe, as you would when doing anything involving money.
In this episode, John and I walk through the most common types of scams and how to spot them, a more comprehensive scam to be aware of, and what red flags to look out for.
If you make it to the end of the podcast you will be again rewarded with our attempts to improvise an outro, which then becomes the outro. If you have an Apple account and you are enjoying WAX Lyrical, please rate us as they are the only podcast host with a star system and it helps get WAX in front of more people!
