Another tumultuous week in crypto comes and goes. We have seen good new and green portfolios, but also setbacks, particularly in blockchain gaming. A week and a half ago I wrote about how Steam appears to be pulling away from blockchain games and yesterday, it was sadly confirmed by Age of Rust after they were notified of their imminent removal from the platform.
However, elsewhere there has been some great news for blockchain gaming on the WAX blockchain.
A Green Week for WAX
Two major wins for WAX’s blockchain games came this week, both impressive if you can get your head around the numbers. The first is involving Farmers World. If you regularly check DappRadar, you would have seen this game has been climbing the ladder like a competitive fireman. If you sort by users, you can see that over the last 30 days, Farmers World is 9th in the gaming category, then 7th over the last 7 days, and 4th over the last 24 hours. Well, according to CryptoSlam!, Farmers World has broken the WAX record for highest monthly sales volume.
The second victory for WAX comes from another game that has surged to the top of the rankings in the last few months: Splinterlands. Although Splinterlands is primarily on the Hive protocol, many of its NFTs are sold on AtomicHub for WAX. After overtaking Alien Worlds for the number 1 spot in October, they have now broken AtomicHub’s all-time record sale. The Mint #3 Land Region Claim sold for a cool, 2,394,900.06 WAX, which as of today, is around $695,000! If the Mint #1 can be sold, that will presumably barge its way into the seven-figure-sale club.
WAX the One To Watch
WAX is still criminally underrated, and if we’ve learned anything in the last year, it’s that blockchain games can make you rich if you adopt early. WAX has some of the most popular blockchain games in existence, with Alien Worlds holding on to the top of the ladder over the last month, Farmers World creeping into the top 10, and R-PLANET remaining in the top 20.
What is more interesting, however, is just how many blockchain gaming projects on WAX are in development and coming soon. I suspect before 2022, WAX will have 5 or more of the top 20 most played blockchain games.
