Firstly, this is unquestionably a veritable who’s who of the best Web3 games, for the most part at least. For the regular readers of Token Gamer, there are some familiar names. The first I need to shout out is the overall winner and winner of the adventure game category, Big Time.
We first covered Big Time in Q3 of 2021 and did an initial look in the October. I knew it had the potential to be something special and since then, we’ve streamed it a lot on our Twitch channel, had Big Time’s Guild Lead on the Mint One Podcast, and even partnered with them, giving away Ruby Passes. It feels one of the most complete games you’re currently able to play in terms of both gameplay and graphics, coming close to that coveted AAA label.
Next is another favorite of ours: EV.io. There are a lot of reasons I like EV.io, from its ridiculously quick onboarding to its engaging gameplay. I did wonder if being browser-based was going to hold it back, but given yesterday’s Coinbase tournament and the double award scoop above, I’d say it isn’t an issue. It’s an addictive, fast-paced shooter that reminds me of my glory days back in Unreal Tournament. I would say that presently, it probably is the best esports Web3 game, but there are several titles coming out next year that will look to comprehensively dethrone it! Here is my full opinion on it:
The only game on the list I didn’t expect to see was League of Kingdoms, but our resident mobile Web3 gamer hasn’t gotten to it yet! Every other game — Illuvium, Shrapnel, The Harvest, Metalcore, Gods Unchained, Thetan Arena, and Blankos — we have been vocal followers of.
Gods Unchained also scooped two awards (strategy and card game categories) and as players and supporters of it since 2018 (which I will shoehorn into all mentions), I’m pleased to see the now-Immutable-based game getting the attention it deserves.
However, conversely, I was disappointed to see that Skyweaver didn’t win anything. It does go head-to-head with Gods Unchained and they’re both excellent, so I can’t feel it’s the “wrong” decision, but I’d have possibly given the card game award to Skyweaver and strategy game award to Gods.
