Social Platform for Web3 Games, Wasder Acquired by Spielworks

"There's a saying in the fitness world: summer bodies are made in the winter. That strikes me as the perfect analogy for web3 businesses too. That is, when we're hitting all-time highs and the fair-weather folk rush back in to say "GM" on Twitter once per day, it's probably too late to get the attention your project needs or wants. Spielworks is quite clearly crafting the perfect physique ready for warmer days."

Spielworks has acquired Wasder.gg, a social platform for web3 games, and is looking to integrate it into the already flourishing Wombat ecosystem.

This crypto winter has been brutal for those in the industry, with the frost claiming the lives of many beloved organizations in the space. My strategy for Token Gamer was simple: survive at all costs. That is, do whatever it takes to ensure that when the sun is out again, Token Gamer is still a key voice in blockchain gaming. This seemed like the best path to take, but some organizations have gone a rather different route.

Spielworks owns and runs the Wombat ecosystem which has been a familiar name to both those in web3 gaming and those in EOS communities. Spielworks hasn’t followed the same survival strategy as many of us though — they’ve gone shopping. Instead of conceding territory, they have expanded in all directions, most notably with the acquisition of one of web3’s leading marketplaces (and a good friend of ours), AtomicHub. AtomicHub is a crucial component of web3 gaming (particularly games such as Alien Worlds) and the acquisition saved the marketplace from potential nonexistence, which would have been a real loss.

While many of us were still thankfully applauding that move, Spielworks was busy making more.

Spielworks Acquires Wasder

Wasder.gg Spielworks

Wasder.gg (I’m pronouncing that as W-A-S-D-er and I don’t care if that’s wrong — I’m not changing) is a social platform for gamers, which is a concept that has been hunted for well over a decade at this point. What makes this one particularly promising is the web3 integration and the focus on web3 games.

Wasder is on both Apple and Google Play and with over 1.5 million downloads on the Play Store alone! It offers some really great features, from a Battle.net style friends module to my personal favorite, game clips. To my eye, nobody has really managed to nail game clips as a standalone entity. YouTube Shorts is probably the closest we have but it’s limiting, particularly with the 9:16 aspect ratio.

Wasder.gg Spielworks $WAS

The platform looks to tie consistent threads between the games players enjoy and socialize the experience, all with web3 functionality. For example, Wasder has a native and deflationary $WAS token, which Spielworks will continue to cultivate. There are several developments in the works at present:

  • A staking mechanism with VIP perks for participants
  • Exclusive NFT collections, only available for purchase with $WAS. These NFTs will have utility as profile pictures within the Wasder app
  • A burn policy utilizing liquidity pool (LP) fees from asset trading

It’s easy to see why Wasder could be an integral part of the Wombat ecosystem.

We have always envisioned Wombat as a place of connectivity and discovery. With the acquisition of AtomicHub a few months ago and now Wasder, we’ve added the missing pieces to our complete Web3 gaming ecosystem and grew it to exceed 7 million users. The $WAS token will also play a crucial role in how we want to reward players for their achievements and interactions — among many other things, and we are beyond excited to build an unprecedented dual-token ecosystem that unites both brands.

Adrian Krion, CEO & Co-founder of Spielworks

It was always my goal for Wasder to benefit as many players and game creators as possible […] I strongly believe that Spielworks is perfectly suited to be the biggest Web3 game publisher in the world in the years to come. Building Wasder over the last 6 years has been one of the big honors of my life. It feels good to see what we have built being taken over by an experienced team with a proven track record – who believes in creating fun, inclusive and rewarding player experiences. I also look forward to working alongside Adrian and the rest of the Spielworks team to create a Web3 gaming ecosystem that will grow to show millions of people what web3 games can be.
