In September 2021, I was highly impressed with a Play-to-Earn (P2E) ARPG that is in the works: Mist. This month, Mist has decided it’s “Mist month” and they’re releasing news and information every day. When I first saw this, I made a note to keep an eye on it and I was half expecting lots of fluff and filler, but I was wrong; it’s meaty game details!
One noteworthy addition that isn’t listed below is that when I first covered the game, it was mostly referred to by the developers as an ARPG (Action Roleplaying Game). Now, it’s often referred to as a fully-fledged MMORPG with everything one might expect from that genre, but with the addition of tokenization, NFTs, and blockchain (Binance Smart Chain $BNB) technology.
There are still announcements coming, but now they have finished what I believe to be the big ones (please prove me wrong, anonymous Mist devs!)
Factions

There are two factions, The Broken Order and The Clan. This is a classic dichotomy of good and evil, with The Broken Order exhibiting goodness and The Clan exhibiting, and I quote, “unnecessary violence.”
It’s very early days for Mist, but the devs did share some information on what faction choice will do:
– factions will determine your friends and your enemies
– factions will determine your playstyle
– factions will determine your PVP earning style
– factions will determine your P2E earning style
– and more
Races

There are 8 races in-game, split into 4 for each faction and each race comes with 5 gameplay abilities (click through to see these abilities):
The Broken Order
The Clan
Classes

This is the area that caught me off-guard. Originally, when I first covered Mist last year, there were only 5 classes going to be in the game. I also noted that the developers seemed highly ambitious. Well, they’ve announced 8 classes now as they want a more balanced game for both PvE and PvP, with support and tanks present. Again, click through to learn what abilities they have:
- Priest (Support)
- Crusader (Tank/DPS)
- Ranger (DPS)
- Enchanter (DPS)
- Witch Hunter (DPS/CC)
- Shape Shifter (Tank/DPS)
- Berserker (Tank/DPS)
- Bard (Support/CC)
Final Thoughts
Mist was a game on my “highly promising” list, but it’s taking shape even more quickly than I imagined. These announcements so far, alongside several more on their Medium, show a fleshed-out vision for a proper MMO with in-game footage and detail. In fact, the lead image for this article is a screenshot of a video in which a ranger engages in some PvP. Remember, this is pre-alpha and has a long way to go, though it doesn’t look very like a “pre-alpha” game to me!
