Onessus, Creator of HodlGod, Announces New Open World NFT MMO, NiftyVille

Onessus, a dapp development studio, is fast becoming one of the most interesting names in blockchain gaming. They first grabbed our attention with their 3D, PvP Battle Royale RPG, HodlGod on the WAX blockchain which we are particularly excited about. However, they have just announced another game in development that is going something of a different direction: NiftyVille

NiftyVille purports to be based on real-life economies and will be heavily reliant on NFTs, where you own your own cars and businesses, with businesses able to bring you in passive income. The game is being built on the Ethereum network, though I am hoping they will also be using one of the many ways to bypass the enormous gas fees and sluggish transaction times on Ethereum. Given that HodlGod is on WAX, perhaps they will utilize the coming WAX-ETH bridge. I presume NiftyVille will also use Onessus’ $VOID token, but I can’t find confirmation on this yet.

The focus for NiftyVille appears to be creating something akin to Grand Theft Auto, but with a heavy reliance on NFTs and ensuring the game is Play to Earn. The announcement post is light on information (intentionally) and their video above is a better way of getting insight as to what is coming with this title. It certainly looks interesting and as a devout MMO player, I’m always encouraged by announcements of new MMOs, particularly when they will be built with blockchain.

There isn’t much else to say until Onessus releases more information and footage, but as soon as we can play this game, we will be writing a thorough preview!

Summary

  • A Blockchain, Grand Theft Auto-style MMO.
  • Built on the Ethereum Network.
  • Highly NFT-centric.
  • Play to Earn, including passive income from businesses in game.
  • Will likely use $VOID (Unconfirmed as of 12/10/2021).
