Mythical Games $37M Funding Round After NFL Rivals Success

I don’t like to cover the same companies or projects in too short a period, but some organizations love to force my hand. Mythical Games has just completed another huge funding round of $37 million led by Scytale Digital.

Just four days ago, I covered NFL Rivals success story. The web3, mobile American football game by Mythical Games, has exceeded 1 million downloads and has 22,000 reviews with an average rating of 4.8/5. Needless to say, it has been not only one of the best cases of a blockchain game working, but hopefully the demonstration of blockchain’s value to gamers, too.

It seems that off the back of this victory, Mythical Games has delved back into funding with a Series C1 extension round led by Scytale Digital. The round secured another $37 million and saw familiar names included, such as a16z and Animoca Brands. In November 2021, Mythical Games raised $150m on a $1.25 billion valuation that was led by a16z, and closed 2021 with a total of $200m. This $37m is expected to be the first extension round of the year, but likely not the last, with another $30m projected, bringing the total amount raised to over a quarter of a billion.

At the time of writing this, Mythical Games only have two games on offer: Blankos Block Party on the Epic Games Store, and NFL Rivals on the Apple Store and Google Play. Both have seen success in their respective genres, but NFL Rivals really has raised the bar. In the coming months, the highly anticipated and regularly teased, Nitro Nation World Tour, is expected to launch. Nitro Nation World Tour is a cross-platform racing game with some huge car manufacturers involved.

I have mentioned on a few occasions that my belief in Mythcial Games came from meeting with senior folk at the company during Gamescom 2022, but that isn’t the only reason. Mythical Games is objectively pushing the space forward, from player numbers and mass adoption, to partnerships with enormous IPs such as Aston Martin, Lotus, and Jaguar (they’re mining that British connection!), and then of course, the NFL. If Nitro Nation World Tour is a success anywhere near the degree NFL Rivals has been, Mythical Games will be comfortably in a league of their own.
