Metalcore is unambiguously one of the most exciting games in development that has blockchain technology in its foundations. The Open World Alpha begins on the 28th July 2023, along with a special event for the third Metalcore playtest.
What Is Metalcore?
Metalcore is a futuristic MMO FPS centered around large-scale PvP, PvE, and territory; it is Planetside 2 meets Titanfall meets Destiny, and that is one hell of a fusion. The gameplay is a mixture of infantry, tanks and mechs, and aircraft, and the kicker — you own your own vehicles. Metalcore is, of course, web3 — it is partnered with ImmutableX and has integrated blockchain with the Polygon zkEVM (to learn more about Immutable’s zkEVM powered by Polygon, click here). The long and short of the benefit of this integration is that the items you craft — vehicles, weapons, units, and so on — can be on-chain.
Another noteworthy point is that the onboarding part of playing Metalcore as a web3 game is neatly sidestepped. Metalcore uses the Immutable Passport which while optional, allows the collection of NFTs without having to setup a crypto wallet which is a common blocker of traditional gamers.

Countdown to Alpha3!

A lot of games in development, particularly those utilizing cutting-edge technology such as blockchain or advanced AI, will pin the “AAA” badge to themselves; this infuriates me. However, I haven’t seen Metalcore do that, which has some irony to it, given the game is without question of that standard. The PvP will be familiar to anyone who played Planetside 2 — to me, one of the most underrated games in history. However, the PvE element is what sets Metalcore apart and is a crucial element to a modern MMO, no matter how engaging the PvP is.
The Alpha 3 will begin on 28th July 2023 and run until the 30th July 2023 — a full weekend of carnage. There is also a special event running alongside this alpha, but as Metalcore hasn’t announced it yet, I’ll keep quiet!
