Matt Thwaites, Guild Lead at Big Time: Mint One 39

We have been racking up some Web3 powerhouses as guests lately and we’re at it again this week as we interview Guild Lead at Big Time, Matt Thwaites!

Token Gamer and NFT Insider have decided to combine forces to launch a weekly podcast, Mint One (formerly WAX Lyrical). John Nichols of NFT Insider and I will discuss a new topic every week, as well as feature special guests. If there’s a topic you’d like us to cover, make sure you let us know through the Token Gamer Discord or Twitter, or the NFT Insider Discord or Twitter.

In last week’s episode, John and I chatted with the Co-Founder of Horizon Blockchain Games, Michael Sanders. This week, we have another person pushing blockchain gaming forward in one of my favorite interviews to date.

Episode 39: Matt Thwaites, Guild Lead at Big Time

First thing’s first: Token Gamer officially partnered with Big Time to giveaway 50 Ruby Passes to allow more of our community to play the closed beta, so get involved in that — it’s free to enter!

If I were to personally create a tier list for blockchain games at present (this is something Superdope does on our Twitch channel regularly,) I would put Big Time in the S tier with only a few others. The term “Triple-A” gets bandied around something chronic both inside and outside of Web3, and it’s rarely true. Fortunately for those games, the term is vague enough that it’s hard to outright disprove. In the case of Big Time, it would border impossible to disprove — it is triple-A.

Big Time is a fully fleshed-out MMORPG, and although it’s only in closed beta, it shows the foundations of a game that has the legs to go the distance. Nevertheless — and this is something I raise to Matt in the episode — it is a Web3 MMORPG. Web3 games are infamously short-lived and MMORPGs might be the toughest genre nut to crack. Undeterred, Big Time is throwing everything they have at this mountainous task.

This interview quickly became one of my favorites because it was an open and free dialogue, though we’ve been lucky with that on Mint One. Matt does not dodge or duck any of the questions thrown at him, to the point where I started throwing questions I thought might cause him to wobble, but no dice. Matt is a great spokesperson for Big Time and ought to give you more faith in the game.

If you’re interested in learning more about Big Time, click the link to their website, but also, keep an eye on our YouTube channel which will have some great content on the game soon too.

We’d like to ask that if you listen to us on Apple Podcasts and/or Spotify, you rate us five stars and leave us a review if you enjoy Mint One. This helps both our podcast and the blockchain gaming ecosystem as a whole!

To listen to Mint One, you can find us on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Anchor, YouTube, and Google Podcasts.
