Ledger Launches Web3 Game, Cometh Battle, in Its Live App

Ledger — yes, the company famed for their crypto hardware wallets — has launched a blockchain game, Cometh Battle, available in the Ledger Live app.

There aren’t many sectors you can be fully immersed in day in, day out, for years, and not become tired of. Yet, blockchain gaming (just that corner of crypto) has kept me interested for years and it is only increasing. There are several reasons for this, perhaps primarily hinging on the value I put on blockchain technology, but the unexpectedness of news certainly contributes too. Who would have had Ledger acting as a Web3 games publisher?

What Is Cometh Battle on Ledger?

Cometh Battle is a free-to-play, blockchain-based strategy TCG (with a few twists) on the Polygon network. There is ownership of cards and spaceships (one of the twists) as NFTs, as well as the opportunity to trade them and earn through trading, renting out cards, and ordinary token acquisition through gameplay.

Cometh is a blockchain gaming studio in France and the open beta for Battle launched in May 2022. The game has been well received so far and said to have accrued over 20,000 players that have racked up over 600,000 games. The game has hosted several tournaments with over $1 million in prizes awarded to the winners in total.

If you use the Ledger Live mobile app, you can buy a Welcome Pack for the game for $3.99 (in USDC) and you’ll get 4 booster packs of 5 playable card NFTs, as well as 5,000 Galactic Credits.

On the note of the Ledger Live app, there is an important note to make here. The Discover section of Ledger is where you can find curated and trusted dapps. Due to Apple having highly prohibitive rules with the App Store, the iOS version of Ledger Live app does not have the Discover section and thus access to Cometh Battle.

Nevertheless, Cometh Battle is the first game to appear on this list of dapps and could lead to the introduction of more games in the future. Yes, it’s another TCG, which has become a competitive genre in Web3 gaming (we gave Gods Unchained and Skyweaver a shout-out in our 2022 gaming awards) but it has some novel features. All you need is a Polygon account which can be setup in the Ledger Live app, so why not give it a whirl and let us know what you think?
