Is the Future a Dead Mall? Mint One Podcast 71

Decentraland established itself as one of the premier metaverse projects, but Folding Ideas has a few… comments. Is it just a dead mall?

Token Gamer and NFT Insider have decided to combine forces to launch a weekly podcast, Mint One (formerly WAX Lyrical). John Nichols of NFT Insider and I will discuss a new topic every week, as well as feature special guests. If there’s a topic you’d like us to cover, make sure you let us know through the Token Gamer Discord or Twitter, or the NFT Insider Discord or Twitter.

In last week’s episode, we discussed how web3 could tackle the problem of Real Money Trading (RMT) in gaming. This week, we’re stepping into the metaverse to discuss the state of play.

Mint One Podcast, Episode 71: Is the Future a Dead Mall?

Dan Olson of Folding Ideas could be reasonably described as anti-web3. This causes the crypto bros in their echo chamber to screech until he leaves. However, it’s important to listen to criticism, particularly when it’s well-supported and fair.

As I mentioned at the start of this episode, Olson is an excellent video essayist and even if you disagree with most of what he says, you would be a fool to write him off. I always try to go into anti-web3 content neutrally, but rarely succeed, and I didn’t this time either. In fact, I was ready to fight him on the beaches and landing grounds, but ended up agreeing with damn-near everything he said.

Before you listen to this episode, I implore you to set aside two hours to watch The Future Is a Dead Mall and form your own opinions. Olson put more than enough hours into researching this documentary and offers a good amount of support on all criticisms.

We’d like to ask that if you listen to us on Apple Podcasts and/or Spotify, you rate us five stars and leave us a review if you enjoy Mint One. This helps both our podcast and the blockchain gaming ecosystem as a whole!

To listen to Mint One, you can find us on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Anchor, YouTube, and Google Podcasts.
