Gods Unchained App Launches as the Web3 TCG Expands to Mobile

There are few games that have been around since the dawn of blockchain gaming and are still going strong, but Gods Unchained is one of them.

I went back through my files and work to see when the first time I mentioned the blockchain TCG was and it was mid-2018. In fact, toward the end of 2018, I made a video where I predicted the best blockchain games that would release the next year, and Gods Unchained was in my top five. You only need to search the game’s name here to see just how many times we’ve covered it.

Although I seldom reach for a TCG when I want to play a game, I’ve put in a fair amount of hours across a plethora of TCGs, but particularly those in web3. I have dipped in and out of Gods Unchained since the beta client five years ago, but I found myself drawn more to Skyweaver. Now, the reason for this isn’t that one is better than the other in terms of TCGs; honestly, I don’t consider myself an expert enough to pit the two against each other on gameplay. What had me logging into Skyweaver was that it had a mobile app version of the game. For me, TCGs are the perfect fit for both NFTs and mobile gaming, so it hooked me.

So, I — and moreover, the playerbase — have been eagerly awaiting Gods Unchained‘s mobile app and at last, it’s here.

Gods Unchained App Launches on Apple and Android

Gods Unchained app

The pre-alpha test phase of Gods Unchained on mobile saw over 66,000 games and it led to an early access version available to all players as of this week. However, there is one thing to be aware of: the initial build of Gods Unchained on mobile is not the finished article. Although that is baked into “early access”, the developers are saying the following:

It’s designed as a companion app, complementary to your core PC experience, and we will continue to develop the app into a fully fledged GU experience

So, here is a breakdown of what you can expect.

Current Features (Early Access Build)

  • Ranked/Solo/Casual Mode
  • Immutable Passport Log In/Sign Up
  • Post Match Rewards
  • Pack Opening
  • Deckbuilder
  • Arena Screen
  • Updated In Game Mobile UI
  • Settings
  • Appsflyer

Future Features

  • Loadouts
  • UI/UX Iterations
  • Performance improvements
  • Delayed NFT Minting Feature
  • Premium Currency (PC) Purchase IAP’s
  • Sealed Mode (PC buy in)
  • Buy Packs (PC)
  • Braze Support
  • Firebase/Notifications Support

This is a little disappointing insofar as I think new players may be put off when they learn there are some reasonably core features that are unavailable to them, particularly loadouts. Nevertheless, the current playerbase will be thrilled to be able to play while traveling — or, let’s face it, defecating.

You can find Gods Unchained available for download on Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
