Fractal and Ev.io Add Seasons, PoA NFTs, and $5K Tournaments

"Earning from playing Web3 games ought to be primarily merit-based (though luck is welcome). That is, the best players can earn a decent amount of money, but the money is open to all players. This is exactly what Fractal and Ev.io are doing. You're not going to buy a house with the proceeds, but having fun playing a game you enjoy will also be made worth your while if you're good at it."

Web3 gaming platform, Fractal, has been running regular EV.io tournaments and now, not only is there a juicy winners’ pot, but Proof of Attendance (PoA) NFTs, with the best used as an entry ticket into monthly $5,000 tournaments.

How Do Ev.io Seasons Work?

Announced on Fractal’s Medium, the new tournament format is straightforward. Each month begins a new season of Ev.io, where as usual, players can earn the in-game currency e by killing enemies in any game mode. At the end of each month, the leaderboard ranking players by how much they have earned will be locked, and 4 different ranks of Proof of Attendance (Fractal is calling these PoP — Proof of Play) NFTs will be distributed.

Platinum: awarded to players who placed in the top 10% percentile on the Seasonal leaderboard
Gold: awarded to players placing in the top 40% percentile
Silver: awarded to players placing in the top 70% percentile
Bronze: awarded to the remaining players

Players that earn the Platinum Proof of Play NFT will gain access to the monthly $5,000 Deathmatch Earn mode. This is a highly concentrated earning event in which the top 10% of players of the season can over 20x as much e per kill until the $5,000 is consumed. As is always the case, this token can be cashed out for $SOL (Solana) or $USDC (USD Coin).

One more note to be made is that crafting has also been added:

Players are able to craft Proof of Play collectibles into higher tier ones by combining 3 of a kind. For example:

3x Gold = 1x Platinum, 3x Silver = 1x Gold, 3x Bronze = 1x Silver

.

So, if you can quite make the top 10%, you still have the chance to play in the Deathmatch Earn event at the end of a season, you just need to play for a few seasons first. It is worth noting that players who own an Ev.io NFT (a weapon or player skin), earn markedly more e than players without one. So, while the game is free-to-play and you can, in essence, get into the top 10% without a skin, it will require a lot more effort. We have given away skins before, and who knows, perhaps we will again!

What Is Ev.io?

Ev.io is a pick-up-and-play, browser-based FPS on Solana and one of the most addictive Web3 games available. Since Fractal and Ev.io teamed up, the game has gone from strength to strength, and the regular tournaments and earning events have been popular.

I have written on the topic of Play-to-Earn many times and how its first viral iteration was incorrect. Earning from playing Web3 games ought to be primarily merit-based (though luck is welcome). That is, the best players can earn a decent amount of money, but the money is open to all players. This is exactly what Fractal and Ev.io are doing. You’re not going to buy a house with the proceeds, but having fun playing a game you enjoy will also be made worth your while if you’re good at it.
