Dr. Disrespect is one of the most famous faces in gaming and his belief in NFTs and blockchain technology has made him a polarizing figure to many gamers. Undeterred, he has launched Midnight Society, a gaming studio building Deadrop, a blockchain-based extraction FPS. Yesterday, we got the first real look at the game at an event in Arlington, Texas.
The wheels of motion for Midnight Society began back in 2021 and in 2022, the details became concrete: Dr. Disrespect had formed a games studio with a AAA team to make a competitive, blockchain-based FPS. We wrote about these details a year ago and not a great deal of new information has been made available. We knew there would be a 10,000 Founders Pass collection on Polygon, which happened and sold out rapidly.

Now, we have Snapshot V, the first event for DEADROP which is currently in pre-alpha state. You are able to play by purchasing the Tower Key, which also grants you a battle pass down the line.
The event itself had hundreds in attendance and some people in our network suggested there was a long queue to get in too. Then, there were also the live streams (which you can watch at the top of this article) which had tens of thousands of viewers. There is a lot to take in, but my first impressions were decent. Blockchain is playing an unintrusive role, which I like, and gameplay is top of the priority list.
This week, CS:GO had an AK-47 skin sell for $160k. The Souvenir Factory New Dragon Lore AWP is valued even higher. And yet people scoff at @DrDisrespect suggesting there could be $100k loot to extract from his Web3 game. It's conceivable *without* true ownership, let alone with!

There are two aspects that give me hope for Deadrop: Dr. Disrespect and Quinn DelHoyo. Dr. Disrespect has a clear understanding of how useful NFTs and blockchain can be to gaming, and despite the torrent of abuse he got for the $100,000 loot comment, he’s right. Quinn DelHoyo is the co-founder of Midnight Society and was previously a Halo developer who also seems simply well-attuned to competitive FPS games.
I am currently in possession of a Tower Key to play Deadrop, however, every time I get into a game, I get a fatal error and the client closes. It’s pre-alpha, so I’m not going to throw my toys out of the pram, but hopefully, I can get in and test what’s available for a video!
