There is a litany of low-budget blockchain games in development, all jostling for attention. Then there are more substantial projects — ones like Guild of Guardians — that have forged an entire army of supporters without much in the way of gameplay footage.
I am ordinarily reticent to give too much coverage to games with little in the way of gameplay to show or experience, unless they are exceptional in other ways. Guild of Guardians doesn’t quite have enough on display to be eligible for Blockchain Gaming Watch quite yet, but it does have a number of feathers in its cap.
What Is Guild of Guardians?
Guild of Guardians is a mobile, multiplayer RPG using blockchain to enable much of the game’s contents to be NFTs, as well as the creation of their $GOG token. What solidified my interest in the project is that it is owned and published by Immutable, and that Layer 2 Ethereum solution is a platform I’m particularly optimistic about.
The game itself is shaping up nicely, and the Ukrainian studio behind it, Stepico, is certainly no bedroom start-up. What caught my eye, however, is the support this project has garnered; it’s quite incredible. Over 800,000 users registered for the CoinList sale, pre-registered players for the game exceeds 400,000, and they have — and this really takes the proverbial biscuit — over 110,000 members in the Discord at the time of writing this. Are they building a game or a breakaway society?!
