When you hear “Method” what do you think of? For me, it’s world first races in World of Warcraft. What started 17 years ago as a guild in an MMORPG, has become a multifaceted gaming and esports powerhouse. The original creator (and Guild Master) Scott “Sco” McMillan, now has set his sites on taking Method into Web3 with Method MetaGuild.
What Is Method MetaGuild?
Method has partnered with Everyrealm, a metaverse organization, to create Method MetaGuild (MMG). The objective of MMG is to build a community around Web3 gaming as well as empower professional and casual gamers, content creators, and developers with an ecosystem and platform. The focus is squarely on esports still, and MMG has already partnered with several games to create tournaments, as well as sporting some big hitters in the industry as financial backers.
On that list are some of the most played Web3 games, particularly on mobile, as well as the familiar game, Ev.io, on Solana and Fractal. However, it is the first on the list — Axie Infinity — that has drawn the most attention so far.
MMG has launched the Axie Master League in partnership with Sky Mavis, the creator of Axie Infinity. This partnership utilizes Sky Mavis’ recently announced esports fund of $2.4m, providing MMG’s Axie league with a prize pool of $160,000.
It's a beautiful day at #Axiecon!😊
It was such a delight to listen @Methodsco (CEO of @MethodMetaGuild), @Complexity, @JasonBWLake & @teamsecret John Yao talk about fixing the broken economics of esports.
Big thanks to @AxieInfinity 🙌 #Axie #AxieInfinity #MMG pic.twitter.com/rKIAbVrpR7

eSports is important to Token Gamer, and like Sco alludes to above, we believe that blockchain can improve the sector extensively. eSports has been inducted into the 2024 Olympics and is one of the fastest growing divisions of gaming, and yet so few can make money from it; even the elite players have to be elite in the right game to make ends meet. We will be watching MMG with interest and looking to sponsor and host more Web3 tournaments ourselves.
