Are You a Long-Time Player of Axie Infinity? You Should Check Your Account

The rewards for playing a blockchain game before it makes it big are numerous and sometimes life-changing. Well, one of the leading blockchain games, Axie Infinity, decided to snapshot their early adopters and airdrop an incredible amount of currency into each of their accounts.

If there’s one thing I will always appreciate by game developers, it’s the reciprocation of loyalty. That is, when long-standing players are rewarded in some way. It could be through special perks, limited edition rewards, or $60M. Believe it or not, Axie Infinity opted for the latter.

The snapshot of players was taken of anyone who played Axie Infinity before the 26th October 2020 and they have been rewarded handsomely. It’s difficult to know exactly how many players they had, but from analysis of Axie Infinity Ethereum smart contracts, it could have been as low as 1,000 players, though the number is believed to be closer to the first 10,000 players. So, what did these players receive? 800,000 $AXS, Axie Infinity’s own token, was distributed between these original players. Now, at the time of writing this on the 1st October, 2021, that is worth $69,176,000, and the number has gone up from $60,000,000 yesterday.

It is of course difficult to determine the veracity of Twitter claims, but one player reported that he and his friend had received around $189,000 worth of $AXS between them. Another player said he received $2,000,000+ worth of the token in his Ronin wallet. That’s quite the notification to get.

So, if you tried Axie Infinity last year, you might want to check your account to see if you’ve just taken a rather large cash injection. I would, however, like a moment of silence for this poor soul.

One thus far unmentioned result of this is regarding the many poorer Asian communities that used Axie Infinity to put food on their tables during lockdown. I dearly hope many of the people who got this enormous airdrop were in these Axie communities as it will revolutionize their lives.
